Kelly is a woman who is sleeping rough in the bushes. She often said that she was fed up with ‘The System’, didn’t want to be part of society, and wanted to stay in the ‘Outback’ which is what she called sleeping rough. By building trust and giving her dignity, our Support Worker was able to advocate tirelessly for her to finally secure a birth certificate, which is the first step to getting ID, a bank account, social services like Centrelink and puts her on the path to get housing. Without the trust and dignity, she’d see LocalKind as just another cog in the wheel of the System, but instead she is accepting support from our service to help her get outcomes she desires.
