After enduring years of emotional and psychological abuse, a survivor, whom we’ll call “Lonnie” sought help from LocalKind. Initially confused by the patterns of control, Lonnie gained clarity through our support, recognising the various forms of domestic abuse. Facing escalating threats from her ex-partner, including death threats, we prioritised her safety, developing and regularly reviewing a comprehensive safety plan. We provided trauma-informed emotional support, advocated for her during criminal proceedings, and helped her obtain a protective order. We also facilitated access to legal and counseling services, financial assistance, and material aid, ensuring Lonnie felt heard, believed, and empowered. Now safe and in recovery, Lonnie credits our LocalKind with helping her reclaim her life.
